SPRITE Residency, 2022

these reclaimed bottles are all filled with love letters handwritten by the artist. They were all available for the duration of the residency and then destroyed afterwards.

my poem 'what i think about love' written in reverse from the inside of the building so you could watch and read in real time from the outside.

The view from outside of the building. I made posters advertising the love letters to very clearly comment on the capitalistic and commercialisation of love in the 21st century. If this residency had been over Valentine's day, it would have been extra good.

For this week long residency a group of artists were given access to an empty commercial building, namely an old Nandos near Drake Circus, and allowed to treat the space as a studio. i experimented with performance and taking advantage of the window space. This created a great opportunity for passers by to get involved with the work. I also played around with the context of the building. As this was a shop front i explored the commercialisation of love and the capitalistic reduction of human emotions to disposable products.
