NO/LUCK, 2023
this project is one i'm pretty excited about. i had the idea a while back. i kept thinking about sculptures that could be put on the front desk at reception and ways a visiting audience could participate with it as they were engaging with staff.

i am always curious about sculptures that change over time and become shaped by the places and people they are met by. i love when metal sculptures have polished areas from being touched - and i love how typically this happens because people think they will get luck from that interaction. i started to think about plaster and how this would wear down over time and a perfect sphere would become imperfect if it was repeatedly touched day after day.

initially i thought about a plaster sphere on a nice wooden stand with a small gold plaque that read 'luck'. then i thought about having two spheres that are swapped out periodically. one reading 'luck' and the other reading 'no luck'. i liked the idea of having two completely identical, purposeless objects that could alter the mood of somebody's day and become an interaction they embedded into their daily life. finally, i decided it would be a more interesting project if there was only one sphere but two plaques. one sphere that, depending on which word you read and when, could make you believe you had luck or you did not. the same object, a different perception, a different outcome in your outlook of your day.

here's my very professional football test where i was trying to visualise the text situation.
